Situation, Miami up 16-10 and they they score a TD with 4:41 to go in the game. It makes the score 22-10. Everyone knows you go for two to make it a two touchdown game. Well, I am sorry, everyone but the Dolphin coaching staff. Now I know they won by 13 points but that is not the point. That is terrible coaching. You go for two in that situation every time. If you miss you are up 12, if you kick you are up 13, and if you get a two point conversion you are up 14. Only two TS's can beat you at this point. So what is the downside of going for two. There is no downside. Exactly why Dave should not be a head coach and why the Phins will not win a championship on his watch.

Was thinking the exact same thing when watching Mosi. It made absolutely no sense at all to kick that extra point, it was meaningless. Anyone with common sense knew to go for the 2 pointer........

Jacksonville did the same thing against SD and they could have paid for it too

I actually think it made sense in this situation for only one reason. Matt Bryant was hurt and out of the game. Jeff Feagles was kicking for the Giants, and he had already missed a short FG (ugly at that). In order to lose, they were going to have to give up 2 TD's and 2 PAT's, which was no sure thing at that point.

Steeser nailed it. Thats why Dave did not go for two in that situation. They did not think they could convert on the extra point. It was not a bad decision in that situation.
Dave gave the same response when questioned by reporters after the game.

All the more reason to go for it. if they did not think they could convert then they may have assumed the Gianst would thin k the same way and go for two after each touchdown. They would only need to convert one to get to 14. Don't care what the situation is, being up 13 is not where i would want to be as a coach or a team. I guess we all have opinions, mine is that is was wrong. Watch the Dolphins closely you will coaching mistakes that should not be made in every game. Wannstedt will not lead the Dolphins to a Superbowl.

mosi, i agree with your point on going for two. however, i hope you are wrong about the superbowl since i have the phins @ 14:1 to win it.

wanny is bad but, the cowboys won it in 95 with barry switzer. nobody is as dumb as him.

i think the phins' defense wins them the afc east...from there its a crap-shoot.

I agree with you Blue 100%. Dave is not the best coach in the world but Norv Turner is one of the greatest if not the greatest offensive co-ordinators in the league right now. That call to McKnight was ingenius and to open up with a play action was a superb call. Phins have the best D in the AFC hands down and the best and most durable running back in Ricky. I think Rob Konrad is the most underrated full back in the game. That guy is one of the best blocking backs and he has great hands for a full back. Jay is not top 5 in QB's but top 10 sounds accurate. Chambers is breaking out at the right time and Randy McMichael is turning into a great tight end. This team is the team to beat in the AFC and they have one of the weakest schedules in the league. I know Dave can be to conservative at times and makes a couple of questionable calls like Houston but he has a team that really believes in him and they are playing great football. Junior Seau has added a million zolts of energy to that D and has them extremely motivated and playing great ball. Miami will win the AFC and it is only a dog fight against a great D like Tampa or Carolina if they make it. They will wash anyone in the NFC East or Minny/GB and please don't mention Seattle or the Rams in the same breath of the Dolphins.

Barry Switzer a dumb coach?

3 National Championships at Oklahoma and a Super Bowl - geez - give the guy a break. You guys act like you know what a coach does in the locker room or in practice. You throw out 165 hours in the week and focus on 3 hours of game film to judge someone. Barry Switzer has won more championship that 99.9999% of all the football coaches in history - maybe he wasn't that great with Aikman, but whoopie, did he have to be?

Barry Switzer won 4 championship - Dave W hasn't even been to a championship game. There is NO COMPARISON here. NONE.

THE PROOF IS IN THE PUDDING.

Hey Cincy,

I agreed with Blue's comments on "i think the phins' defense wins them the afc east...from there its a crap-shoot." I do not think Barry was a dumb coach, you have to respect his accomplishments. I am saying that Miami has a team that will win even with Dave Wanny. I predict a better December just because they have added the right players to a dominate squad that will make the difference in December. Miami will do well and go deep in the playoffs if they don't win the Bowl.

With Ricky Williams, they may have a chance in the cold weather - but I said that LAST YEAR and look what they did in Foxboro with 2 minutes left in the season.

Stupid people aren;t as bad as stupid people that THINK they're smart - the Dolphins (Dave W and Norv T) simply thought they could outsmart Bill Belichik, of all people, by throwing with 2 minutes left in the game.

Tha't how stupid Dave W is and yesterday's game was no different. He is simply incompetant and it's that simple. If he cn't win with the defense they have and Ricky Williams, he should have to give back his frigging salary.

Hey CINCY,

"If he cn't win with the defense they have and Ricky Williams, he should have to give back his frigging salary." I agree 100% with you on that one, that is why he will win this year. All human beings learn from their mistakes and you are right, they had no business losing in Foxboro and this year they will not make the same mistake.

Why all the love for Wanny. He is the most overrated coach in football, and Cowher is a close second. When the weather gets cold, the 'Fins will fade like always.

If Miami had missed the 2 pt convertion the Giants could have tied it with 4 F/Gs in 4 mins.

Impossible I hear you say, Its the only thing that hasnt happened this year

ACtually i believe the reason was that the giants didnt have a kicker. Matt bryant got hurt. And they were using Feagles (the punter) to kick for them. Feagles tried a short FG earlier and it was a shank (i think it was his first FG attempt in his career). I am guessing that wandnstedt wanted to make feagles hit 2 extra points to win. And from the first kick, i am guessing that would have been very difficult.

Primetime, I covered that above. If that was the case than Fassell may have been smart enough to go for two both times. 1 of 2 gets you to 14. And actually after watching the Monday night game it only strengthens my argument.

Anyway I think the Phins are a very good team. I was all over them against Buffalo in Week 3 when most of the people on the Forum were on the Bills. I have followed Wannstedt through Chicago (big Bears fan) and into his job at Miami. I could not wait until Chicago dumped him because of inexcusable coaching mistakes. Ultimately you coaching staff and team are a product of the head coach.

They have a great shot of winning the AFC. But I will look long at hard at who the opposing coach is in each of their match-ups where the talent difference is negligible.

there are several nfl coaches who screw up the choice of going for 1 or 2 after a td.
